The importance and ease of expressing yourself.

5 Simple Ways To Express Yourself

Amidst the stress of studying for class after class, all of which seem to synchronize their test dates, and trying to build our resumes with what seem to be the most demanding extracurricular activities on the planet, a desire for self-expression arises. This hollow feeling pops up at seemingly random, a deep yearning for self-expression, but often times we are unsure of just how to go about satisfying this urge. It may seem hard enough to find a way to incorporate a form of self-expression into the balancing act that is college life, let alone actually find a way to achieve it. This being said, self-expression can be very satisfying, motivating, and stress relieving, actually boosting your productivity for other activities. Here are five of my favorite activities for expressing myself.

1. Painting and Crafting

Sometimes the best way to express yourself is with a canvas. Let your imagination run wild and just paint whatever you want, you won't be disappointed. If painting isn't your forte, try some craft ideas! Make a planner, a calendar, or even a pen cup, the fun comes with the challenge. No matter what you choose to paint or create, the satisfaction of artistic expression is a beautiful feeling.

2. Cooking

Cooking may seem to be a strange outlet for self expression, bu the miniature adventure that comes with attempting a recipe can be very relaxing. Cooking can be a great way to blow off some steam and just let your inner feelings fall away. It can be a little busy sometimes, but your hard work will bring great satisfaction when you're chowing down on your tasty creation.

3. Writing or Journaling

Pent up emotion got you down? Are your emotions getting too strong to keep inside? Try putting it all on a page to release some of those repressed feelings and thoughts. Writing in general can help you to express your thoughts in a legible way. Journaling is not only good for letting out some frustrations at the end of a long day, but also for keeping a log of those day to day experiences.

4. Jamming Out

Listening to the right song can be truly thereputic. May you be stressed out, angry, sad, happy, or simply bored, jamming out to your favorite songs can instantly satisfy and relax you.

5. Going to the Gym

Before you roll your eyes or recoil in fear, I promise the gym is a very good outlet for self expression. One doesn't need to be in shape to go to the gym -- God knows I'm not. The only thing you need to go is a good reason. It's easy to let your need of expression be your reason, nothing beats the ease in which hard work lets you blow off some steam. I personally feel like the gym is trek through hell, but the clarity of mind and feeling of contentment that comes after is incredible.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
