With New Years right around the corner it's the perfect time to start something new. Most people vow to go to the gym for two hours everyday or never to look at a piece of bread again. However, I think that just trying to be a little healthier every day in 2016 is an attainable and easy goal.
1. Drink more water
Okay so maybe you've heard this way too many times, but there's reason behind it. Drinking water is so important. It helps maintain metabolism, keeps your skin looking heathy and hydrated, and keeps all of our natural body fluids in check. A recent study conducted on adult Americans ages 20-50 showed that a vast majority of us really aren't getting enough water, 43 percent of men and 41 percent of women to be exact. So do your body a favor and swap a Coke for a glass of water!
2. Get more sleep
This is kind of like the water thing where people say it so much, most of us don't even pay attention and continue getting a measly 5 hours of sleep every night. But why is getting the recommended 8 hours so important anyways? Well sleep kind of effects everything in our bodies. Literally everything. Sleep deficiency is serious business and over time it can even put you at higher risk for things like heart disease and obesity. So get off of Instagram and get in bed!
3. Have a fruit or vegetable with every meal
Making it a goal to have at least one fruit or vegetable with every meal is the perfect way to be a heathier without having to drastically change your diet.
4. Use smaller plates
Using smaller plates is a great way to cut back on how much you eat without even really realizing it. When you have a huge dinner plate and you get a normal portion of food, it seems like a lot less because of all the empty space. By using a salad plate instead, you kind of trick yourself into thinking you're eating more than you actually are. Mind games!
5. Have a skin care routine
Our skin goes through a lot and it's our largest organ, so taking care of it is vital to being healthy. Taking just 10 minutes to wash and moisturize your face every night can make a huge difference in your skin.
Here's to a healthier 2016!
