5 Simple Ways To Succeed In 2017

Here are five simple ways to be motivated and inspired in the new year.

1. Don't make a New Year's resolution.

Resolutions set us up for failures even though we have the best of intentions. Usually, this is because nothing has actually changed except the number of the year, not our mind, will or emotions. Debbie Ford said...

"New Year's resolutions often fail because toxic emotions and experiences from our past can sabotage us or keep us stuck with the same old thoughts, patterns and regrets."

So if we want to grow and excel in 2017 we need to let go of what has been holding us back; we need to heal from the hurts, forgive the offenses, and change our thoughts.

2. Change our thoughts.

This is how we grow. A person's life will always go in the direction of the person's thinking. This isn't just a Christian philosophy or a New Age trick, it is fact. Sure, people and circumstances that are out of our control can have a profound impact, but a conquering mindset will lead to a life of success.

3. Make a plan.

If we don't plan ahead, we will wander off the path of fulfilling our dreams and distractions will become the focus. Zig Ziglar said...

"You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win."

4. Make time for fun!

To succeed in 2017 doesn't require all work and no play; play is a must. Some of the most successful organizations in the world today like Google, Facebook, Apple, Life.Church, and Starbucks are intentional that their employees or volunteers enjoy what they do and have time to have fun together. The same thing is important for you and me. Boredom, duty, and disinterest will take their toll if we don't make time to smell the roses and hear the music.

And lastly - as Walt Disney said...

"If you can dream it, you can do it."

So let's dream our hearts out and fantasize and day dream and meditate about how we are going to leave this world better than we found it (and have an amazing time while we do it).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
