5 Signs You're From Blissfield

Loyal Royals young and old will always talk about our small town charm

Everybody dreams of the quaint town where everyone knows everyone and the sense of unity is overflowing. As someone who was raised in a town small enough to be called a "village", trust me, it's not a fictional fantasy place. It's real.

Whether you moved away from Blissfield after high school, or have plans to keep your roots right here, these signs ensure you are still a Loyal Royal at heart.

1. Two stoplights, No worries

Blissfield is roughly a middle ground between Ann Arbor and Toledo. We have one road that runs through that can take you practically anywhere. In Blissfield, we only have two stoplights, on the same road. That's it! Living in our town means you never have to worry about traffic, but always have to worry about the cops that linger around the 4-ways.

2. We're Children of The Corn

Do you have bad allergies? Does the idea of endless fields of corn trigger horror movie scenarios? Blissfield isn't the place for you. If you drive outside out small downtown , you will be met with the vast countryside. Most of the residents live in the middle of nowhere, literally. Out here there's roads that don't get touched in the winter, ditches you've probably crashed your truck into, and fields you swear are haunted.

3. You're a Loyal Royal

Blissfield's schools are closely knit together to make a trio of Royal Pride. You have so many activities when you are younger like the "Royal Walk" and "Purple and Gold Day" that it's impossible to not feel a wave of excitement when Leo makes an appearance at Football games. Our football team has been to Ford Field, and our Girl's Basketball team is out of this world. If you get the chance, catch a game either in the fall or winter to experience the Royal Pain student section. Don't miss out on baseball in the warmer months...it's religion here.

4. Baseball.

We have high standard for baseball in our town. You most likely played tee-ball at the age of four and playing in rec leagues until high school. Once high school started, you were out putting in work with Tuttle in the hot and cold. Even if you didn't play baseball or softball, you either dated or were friends with somebody whose number you proudly wore. Blissfield also has around 6 separate ball fields, so there is no excuse to not get out there and at least play catch.

P.S. It's also old tradition for the varsity baseball teams to all bleach their hair if they make it to state level. Weird, but it's superstition.

5. River Raisin

The idea of having a river run through your town may seem slightly appealing to you. And while fishing in the summer brings nostalgic feelings to me, the glorious brown water sure does not. Neither do the days of flooded parks and "the bridges" freezing over. Blissfield is used to our parks flooding after a good days worth of summer rain - some of us even look forward to it as a unit of measurement. While it has been the factor of cancelling our summer festival, it also has served as the focal point of summer days.

Blissfield is a small town with so much charm that I can't even begin to put into words. Yes, we all want to leave as soon as possible...yet something always draws us back in.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
