There are so many ways to tell that a person is doing good in life. Many times, we don’t think of what we have as valuable as we should because we assume that everyone has them in life. We forget that the simple things that we have are what others dream of having. Value everything you have, even if it is the slightest thing. Everything we have is a blessing from God and we should be thankful for it. If you have these five things, know that you’re doing well in life.

1. You have a home.

No matter where you live, be glad that you have a comfortable bed to sleep in every night. We are driven to think that having a home is an ordinary thing, but it’s much more than that. So many people are homeless in our country and around the world. Be appreciative that you have a place you call your home and you can go to it when you desire.

2. You have food on your table.

Yes, this one is a sign that you’re doing well in life. We don’t often think of this point because we have all kinds of food around us and we can get food anywhere and anyway, even while in a car. We have been spoiled with too much food that we forget to think of having it as doing well in life. There are millions of people without food today. While you might be concerned that you didn’t get the job that you sought, others are looking for food to eat.

3. You have a job.

By having a job, you’re able to have a home, food and everything you need. No matter what your salary is, having a job is a good thing. It means you are independent and you can take care of yourself. Having a job means you’re not struggling. It means that you’re able to work and that your health is well. Many people are unable to work for many reasons such as being handicapped, diagnosed with a dangerous disease, or simply because they are unable to get hired.

4. You have people in your life that care about you.

Having people in your life who ask about you and who want to see you is a wonderful thing. Having a family and/or friends who support you and who love to be part of your life is lovely to have. You’re not a lonely person and you have people to love, protect, and care about you all the time. So many people are lonely in the world. The next time you see the people in your life, smile at them and remember that they are another reason you are living a good life.

5. You’re an optimistic person.

The fact that you are a positive person and able to have dreams to follow is a great sign you have a good life. A negative mind will get you nowhere in life because no matter what you achieve, it will always seem insufficient. Being optimistic means that you love everything around you and that you have the potential to do anything your heart desires.

So, you don’t need to have all the luxurious worldly things to live a good life. You don’t need to be making so much money to think that you’re living well. Be appreciative for all that you have. Having small things but a lot of peace inside of you is much better than having big things in life but little or no peace inside you.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
