Well, this is it. It's an exciting time and a sad time all tied into one... The end of spring semester.
While summer is a time full of relaxing and spending time with your friends and family (and no classes, I might add), I always get a little upset knowing I'll be away from all of my college friends for a few months. Granted we have the ability to see each other, it's just not the same as being able to wake up, walk down the hall of your dorm/sorority house/apartment/whatever, and tell your roommate that you want to go to the movies or go shopping.
But, if you're one of those people who are in denial that you're another year closer to graduation, here's some tell-tale signs that summer is coming a lot faster than you hoped for.
1. The weather is actually bearable.
Say goodbye to leggings (sadly) and say hello to Nike shorts. Put away your Uggs and break out your Birkenstocks. It's sunny and at least 70 degrees most days which, compared to the harshness and ugliness of winter, can make anyone's bad day a little better.
2. It's time to make your schedule for next fall.
I know I'm probably the only one who gets excited to make their schedules for the next semester (I'm weird, sorry), but there's just something about getting the email telling you it's time to register for classes, which insights a frenzy of scheduling advising appointments, making a back up schedule for your back up schedule in case you can't get into the classes you're needing, and figuring out which classes all of your friends are in so you can sit by each other on the first day of the new year.
3. You have way too much going on.
On top of all of your professors scheduling last minute assignments, you have your job, your social life, your sorority's formal/philanthropy event/meetings/functions, fraternity philanthropy events...and you still have to manage to eat and sleep somehow. It's like everyone decided to schedule the whole semester into one month.
4. People stop showing up to class.
I'm not sure if it's the weather or the fact that most people are over it at this point, but your class size begins dwindling down to at least half of what was there when you first began. It's always a surprise on test day who shows up because there's a good chance you've only seen them once...on the first day of class.
5. You calculate every single grade to see what you need to make the rest of the year.
Whether your passing or failing, you're so over class and work at this point, you want to be able to exhort as minimal effort as possible and receive the best possible outcome... Two things that don't exactly go hand and hand, but, hey, that won't stop you from trying.
Even though finishing out another semester of college is exciting, you at least have a tinge of sadness every now and then when you realize you won't be able to see your friends everyday. So do everything that's offered this last month. You may be exhausted by the end of it, but, trust me, you'll make some of the best memories.
