I have gained so much from my time as a college student, I have made relationships that did not only change the way I view other people, but the way I see myself. At my university I had the opportunity to not only gain a higher education but memories that will last me a lifetime. Now, with all of that being said, I am sick of it. I love my school but I just can’t do it anymore. All throughout high school we were warned of this strange condition known as “senioritis”. It is this laziness that takes over your body that prevents you from having any form of motivation towards school. For some reason senioritis was never mentioned in college. Well, I am here to tell you it happens, and it is 10 times worse than any high school case of it. For any of you out there wondering why you no longer look forward to the parties, the meetings, the classes, the presentations, or anything for that matter, you may also have a case of the “itis”. Here are five signs that you are officially over being a college student.
- Every class feels like an 8 am.
We have all been there, forced to take a class that didn’t fit into your socializing schedule. You would dread this class days before you even had to go. Conjuring up ways that would classify your absences as excused, calculating what grade you would have to get on the assignment if you factor in your nonattendance. To the students who schools don’t have a mandatory attendance policy, cherish your gift and consider yourself lucky. Whether a school has an attendance policy or not, senioritis still finds a way to creep into all of its upperclassman. When you are officially over being a college student you feel this way about every class. It could be a class that falls perfectly in the middle of the day, you don’t have to get up too early and you won’t be done too late, you will still find a way to avoid being there.
2.Group projects are Agony.
When you are sick of college, hearing a professor say “you will have a group project” is the equivalent of hearing “the final exam will be cumulative”. You just don’t want it to happen. The older you get the more you realize you have your own schedule and way about doing things. When group projects come along, throw all of your beliefs out the window, you and four other people have to attempt to be a team. I get it, group projects are essential for ensuring you know how to be a team player, at least I think, I never really was given a valid reason on why we needed so many.
3.You Literally Can’t Even.
Whenever you are having a conversation about school and all you can muster up is a disgruntled, monotone, neutral response, you may be sick of college. “So how’s school going?”, “I’m taking classes.”, “What do you want to do with your degree?”, “Get a job.”, “What are you doing when you’re done school”, “Taking a nap.”, “How are you roommates”, “Who cares.”. Just a few examples. Being sick of college means being sick of every conversation that references college. If you are having a conversation with someone who shows some of these signs, find another topic, because you won’t be getting anything out of them anytime soon.
4.Your campus appearance is disgraceful
We are told to “dress for the job you want”, if you are sick of college the job you have dressed for is full time unemployment. You think to yourself, I am going to look nice tomorrow, and it never happens. You are already expected to show up, looking presentable is asking too much. Your morning outfit selections consist of grabbing whatever is closest and throwing it on. There are those fashionista/os who look nice all the time, but let’s face it we all can’t be like them.
5.Underclassmen Just Rub You the Wrong Way.
Don’t get me wrong, we are all a part of a community and make up one big happy family, but underclassmen are just the annoying younger sibling that need to go away. I don’t know if it’s the hopefulness, the excitement, or the twinkle in the eye, but they just make you want to scream. Maybe you are just jealous that they will have the opportunity to do the things you never got to. Whatever it is, you can’t stand them and do your best to stay far away.
To the underclassman that doesn’t believe this is possible, brace yourself for the day you are infected with senioritis, there is no treatment. For the upperclassman that can relate, realize you are not alone, there are thousands who want it to be over just like you. Next all we have to worry about is getting a job, and that should be a cake walk, right?
