5 Shows to Start Binge-Watching This Fall

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all doing well. It's been a hectic couple of weeks for me at college with stress and work, but I am pushing through. Today I want to give you guys a couple suggestions for TV shows that I find enjoyable to watch. It's a wide variety of genres from animated to comedy shows. So without any wasting more time, turn on your streaming device and get ready for these TV show suggestions.

1. Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty is a cartoon made through Adult Swim, so it is a more mature cartoon show. This show follows an adolescent boy named Morty, and his crazy, drunk grandpa, Rick, as they travel through different dimensions and get themselves into some international galactic trouble. There are currently 3 seasons with about 30 episodes total. The newest season is coming out this November 10th, and can be streamed on Hulu! I highly suggest this show if you are into clever TV writing, and hilarious, crude humor. It's definitely not kids for younger ages, so parents keep that in mind. For all of you college kids who haven't seen this show yet, I highly suggest it.

2. Prison Break

Prison Break is a show from the early 2000's, and recently had a season revival in 2017. The show follows Michael Scofield, as he tries to break out his brother, Lincoln Burrows, from Fox River Prison. It is five seasons long, with over 3 days worth of episodes. It's very violent, yet super impressive with how the story is written. If you're into the classic "2005 year kind of shows" then you'll definitely enjoy this series. If you don't know what I mean about that, I guess you'll just have to see for yourself! This series is also available on Hulu.

3. Brooklyn 99

Brooklyn 99. The show that got canceled, but somehow got saved from various fans and celebrities complaining that this show should continue. Thank goodness they did, because this show is till releasing new episodes and is on the rise. This series follows a group of police officers at a precinct in New York, as they take on various different cases and "heists" throughout the show. I think of it as a newer version of The Office, and quite frankly the show is very entertaining. It has actors Andy Samberg and Terry Crews, as well as many other rememberable faces. This series, as well, is on Hulu.

4. SuperStore

Just to get this over with, this show is also on Hulu. If you don't have Hulu, I'm sorry this article must be a bust for you. Fear not though, as maybe I will make an edition for specifically Netflix. Anyways, SuperStore follows a group of coworkers at a local store called Cloud 9, as they try to deal with new ideas and issues revolving around their jobs. It is still currently making episodes, and it is a very different kind of comedic show. The episodes are very short, and easy to binge! I highly suggest this if you really have no other show to watch right now.

The Politician

The Politician is ONLY on Netflix, so there you go Netflix owners. This is a really new show that is about a kid played by Ben Platt, and his journey to becoming President of the United States. It is a very interesting dramedy-like show, and it's really fun to watch. There are only 8 episodes in the first season, but they are already in production for the second season, so soon more episodes will be available! If you're into famous singers and musical theatre actors being in a TV show, then this one is for you.

I hope you all find these suggestions helpful, as it is that time of year where no one wants to go outside with the cold weather, and the sun goes down super freaking early. If you have a day to yourself, you should definitely check some of these series out! I really enjoy all of them, and sometimes I go back to rewatch some episodes.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week, and I'll see you next time with a new article. Peace!

Your Friend,

Al

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
