5 Shows To Get You Through The Rest Of The School Year

Those last few weeks in the quarter (or semester) can be rough, so it's important to take a minute and relax. One of the easiest ways to get your mind off the fact that class registration is underway and finals are terrifyingly close is to watch some lighthearted TV! Don't think you have time to watch TV with your mass amounts of homework? Pop one of these shows on and use it for background noise instead of music; if it's a show you know well, it will be comforting background noise and won't be horribly distracting.

1. "Bob's Burgers."

Quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite shows, "Bob's Burgers" is hilarious and wholesome! With surprisingly inoffensive humor and content, it's easy to digest so it makes for great background noise. Lots of comedy shows today have a hard time being funny without in some way making fun of some sensitive topics. However, "Bob's Burgers" does a great job without having to be rude! You can watch up to season 5 on Netflix and you can catch season six here!

2. "The Office."

I won't lie, I've seen this show start to finish an obscene amount of times, but it never fails to entertain me! "The Office" is my go-to show for while I'm doing homework or just have something I need to focus on in general, because it's not painfully dramatic and so detailed that if I blink I'll miss something big. You can watch the whole series on Netflix, and you won't regret getting into this hilarious series! Season 1 is heavy on the cringe factor, but it gets better and better after that.

3. "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia."

If you like cringe humor, then this is the show for you. I was skeptical when I first started watching, but now I can't get enough. This show is based entirely around these five people who make bad and awful decisions ultimately getting them into bad situations with terrible endings. There are no feel-good moments in this series, just laughing at these neurotic characters and their schemes to get ahead in life that never go to plan. IASIP is also available on Netflix!

4. "Friends."

Even though the show ended awhile ago, "Friends" is still a favorite of mine and about half the general population. Lighthearted humor, romance, and obscene amounts of puns make this series great for relaxing on the couch after a long day. I have a tendency to binge watch "Friends" whenever I'm sick and have to stay in bed all day. You can watch it all on Netflix!

5. "Starkid Productions."

Now, to be fair, "Starkid" isn't a TV show; they're a group of friends that get together and put on some of the most brilliantly goofy musicals you'll ever see. I'm just getting into them myself, and I am gobbling them up! Their parodies of "Harry Potter" are absolutely phenomenal, and that was their first production! Every single play Starkid has done is on Youtube, broken into small chunks so you can set it to autoplay and watch it like a movie or watch a couple pieces at a time. You won't be sorry you did.

All of these shows are favorites of mine, lighthearted and funny. The last thing you need when you're stressed to the max is a show that stresses you out in an entirely different way. Not to mention those kinds of shows tend to suck you in and aren't always the easiest to stop watching at a moment's notice or after a study break. After watching these shows, you'll be able to reference one of them in nearly every scenario, which is always a bonus. They're surprisingly applicable and there are usually lots of people who will understand and love the references!

Good luck surviving the rest of the term!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
