5 Scriptures For Anyone Considering Studying Abroad
Elizabeth Martin

Recently, a popular decision several college students are faced with is the choice to study abroad. Whether the term is for a summer, semester, or year, the studying abroad process comes with various and diverse emotions for everyone involved. In the mix of figuring out what to do, where to go, and if it's even possible, it's important to remember your faith and to keep that a priority. Here are 5 scriptures that everyone involved (from the person traveling to the friends and family they are leaving for a while) needs to remember and stay true to.

1. Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Not only should we not fear, we are commanded not to. It can be a scary thought to travel with of all the terror that is happening around the world, but God tells us that he will be with us wherever we go; that includes going abroad.

2. Matthew 28:19

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

This is the Great Commission. We are called to share the good news of Jesus everywhere we go. When in a foreign country, if you can't always talk about your faith due to persecution or restriction, let people see Jesus live through your actions. Do not be ashamed of your faith and go spread the good news of our savior and live our your calling in Christ.

3. James 1:2-3

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance."

Studying abroad is no vacation. There are going to be times where you are disappointed and burdened. However, remember to try to be joyful at all times. Remember this specific fruit of the spirit and always look on the bright side. You're living in a different country! Don't let the little things bring you down; embrace change and embrace differences.

4. Ephesians 4:2

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."

Love is the most important key to studying abroad. You need to let go of any preconceived ideas and notions from your homeland and learn to love the new culture you're in. Love the language, love the food, love the music, and most importantly love the people. People will be different from you, but your differences make you each unique and stronger. Be open-minded and willing to learn and fall in love.

5. Luke 1:37

"For nothing is impossible with God."

Seize every opportunity you can. You have the chance to travel the world, which you might never have again. Explore new things and try everything different. Stay out of your comfort zone because anything and everything is possible with God.

Studying abroad is exciting, scary, confusing, challenging, spectacular, life-changing, and eye-opening. Yet with God's help and constant presence/comfort, it can be all of that and more.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
