What is it about coffee that draws people in? You can walk into any coffee shop, and it will be cluttered with aspiring writers, students and professionals just stopping in on their way to work. For me, coffee is not just a source of energy. It is an art form, much like one would say after craft beers or wine. It isn't just about the taste of the product, it is the appearance, taste, mouth-feel and overall experience. As a San Jose resident, I am proud to bring you a list of five coffee shops you need to try out!
1. Bellano Coffee
In 2006, Bellano started as a small cafe in San Jose. Since then, they have gained popularity in the area due to their efforts of producing and roasting their own coffee. What many people would consider too much, Bellano believes roasting their own coffee and baking their products every day is completely worth it. I mean, who wouldn't want fresh croissants every day?
2. Caffe Frascati
If you're looking for a bit of excitement, look no further, Caffe Frascati in Downtown San Jose will give you that and " a little taste of Italy." Caffe Frascati is unlike most coffee shops where it also acts as a stage for comedians, musicians and writers!
Along with their exciting atmosphere, Caffe Frascati also roasts their own coffee. Caffe Frascati Roasting exclusively purchases 100 percent Arabica beans from producers they trust, meaning, every cup of coffee you drink from Caffe Frascati is made thoughtfully.
3. Devout Coffee
Devout Coffee sticks out on my list of coffee places to visit because not only is it located North of San Jose, but it is also family owned. After two brothers discovered the world of specialty coffee, they began to experiment with coffee beans in their garage. What was first a hobby between brothers, turned into a successful business. You can taste Devout Coffee right in Fremont, CA.
4. Voltaire Coffee House
Remember how you thought you never needed to know about philosophy? Well, think again. Named after the famous French philosopher and writer, Voltaire Coffee tries their best to bring Organic coffee and tea to their customers. A very rare trait about Voltaire Coffee House is that they practice sustainability which basically means, "receive, give, receive." This term means that they try to use only organic, fair trade, and eco-friendly as much as possible. Way to go, Voltaire!
5. Crema Coffee Roasting Company
Last but not least, Crema Coffee takes the final slot on my list of coffee places. Located in San Jose's Rose Garden area, Crema Coffee is dedicated to producing quality coffee to their loyal customers.
People just assume that those who drink coffee drink it just for the energy or aesthetic when in reality coffee is an experience! I encourage you to explore your environment and look for smaller coffee shops. Instead of swinging by Starbucks every morning, try out family owned shops who take the time to produce amazingly fresh coffee. Who knows, maybe you'll find your next favorite place?
