My mom is the most humble person I’ve ever known, because she gives so much and expects nothing back. She gave up everything for my siblings and me, and I can only hope to achieve a fraction of her accomplishments in my lifetime. It is hard to put a mother's love for her child into words, and actions certainly speak louder than words. If I could hug my mom one last time, I’d thank her for the sacrifices she’s made for us. All of these sacrifices were very hard and I may never truly understand why she made them, but I do appreciate it.
1. She sacrificed 100% of her time.
Moms will drop whatever they are doing just so they can be there for you during rough times. It doesn’t matter if they are using the restroom, talking on the phone, at work, or sleeping. They would fly across the world for you, and that is something not very many people will do.
2. She sacrificed her empty stomach.
I always look forward to coming home from college, because my mom makes sure I have home cooked meals. Moms always prioritize their child's hunger over their own. Sometimes, they are stuck with leftovers but that’s okay because that’s how much they love you. Growing up, my mom’s breakfast was eaten while I was having lunch.
3. She sacrificed money for you.
Somehow she always had enough money for your Friday night trip to the mall, because making sure we had the latest trends in fashion were a big priority. Although some families like mine did not have much, our moms always made sure we were happy with what we did have.
4. She sacrificed her bed.
We always had a warm bed to crawl into no matter what time of the day it was. All of those sick and lonely nights meant hopping into her bed, and dad has even gotten kicked out a few times. And oh, weekend mornings are the best because she sleeps in, which means early morning cuddle sessions!
5. She sacrificed her feelings.
No matter how bad her days are, she puts a smile on her face for you. Behind her smile are tears and pain, but she continues on with optimism to give you hope that tomorrow will be a better day. The world could be ending and she would reassure you that you are okay.
A mother’s love for their child is unconditional and irreplaceable. These sacrifices are only a few examples of what she has given up to be your mother. We will never be able to pay her back, but we can tell her how much these sacrifices means to us. Many of us do not or did not show enough appreciation, so I am inviting you to do so now. If your mom is still here today, please give her a hug and thank her for the sacrifices she has made the next time you see her.
