7 Resons Why Highlands, NC Has My Heart

1. It is the epiphany of small town USA.

There may be more than one red light, but is three too many? You have to stop by The Dry Sink for all your "things you didn't know you needed" needs, then walk down Main Street and window shop (casue let's be honest...everything is way too expensive!). After walking around this beautiful small town, stop for lunch at the best pizzeria in the USA, and what is it called? Well, The Pizza Place of course! And of course saze room for ice cream at Kilwins!

2. There are waterfalls EVERYWHERE!

Pick any direction out of town and I promise there is a gorgeous waterfall in less than 10 min!

3. Mountain top views are also around every curve!

If panorama views are more of your style, then you are in luck! Just like the numerous waterfalls, there are magnificent views literally around every twist and curve. You can either just drive down the road or hike a few miles to the summit, either way the views are spectacular! Oh, don't forget the classic jumping pic when you reach the top, even if it's a little dysfunctional!

4. Sunset Rock is the best place to watch the sunset, hands down!

You can always drive up the short but extremely bumpy road, but walking back in the dark is always fun too! It is the perfect place for cute pictures, engagements, or just a relaxing evening. (It is also the best cell/internet service in the surrounding area!)

5. Likewise, the Sunrises are out of this world!

If you are an early riser then you have to march right back up to Sunset Rock and follow the little trail on the other side of the mountain. Set up an eno and wait for the best sunrise of your life!

6. Two Words...Slinding Rock!

This will forever be one the most fun places in the world for me! Yes, the water is VERY chilly, but as we like to say, "Don't worry, you will get numb soon!" Just sit down and slide! If you want to add a little more speed and therefore more fun, just add an intertube and fly down that rock! Be careful of the hole in the middle! It's super fun to jump into though!

7. The Iron Bridge and the Chatooga River

This is the perfect place for a short hike, a dip in the river, photo ops, or just a beautiful picnic. It is amazing, and oh if you didn't get engaged at Sunset the the big rock in the river is another great option, my parents thought it was an excellent spot!

Obviously I am in love with this amazing town, and I could go on and on forever talking about how great it is, but if you don't go there yourslef you will never understand. This town has my heart and I think everyone should be able to experience the charm Highlands, North Carolina has to offer! But please, whatever you do, don't come expecting to have a city-slicker good time, becasue I can promise you, you will be disappointed. Instead if you come with a nature-lovers, outdoorsy outlook, you Wil have the time of your life! I hope you fall in love with the my favorite town in the World!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
