Happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them. Sometimes it can seem like everything is going wrong, and you ask yourself, "Is it every going to get better?" Just know, it does.
1. Pain is part of growing.
Remember there are two types of pain: pain that hurts you and pain that changes you. Both pains can help you grow. Move on from what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you. Pain is only temporary. Don't be afraid to fail. It has happened to the best of us.
2. Complaining changes nothing.
Don't be the negative Nancy when it comes to everything. Excuses are just excuses, and your complaints mean nothing. Don't just sit back and whine about it, do something to change it. If you don't like something happening, fix it. Complaining about what happened at work or school yesterday isn't going to change what is going to happen today. Those who complain the most accomplish the least.
3. Every struggle is a step forward, not a step back.
Don't let the little setback keep you back. Everyone has bad days—overcome them. Learn from them. You are always going to struggle to get what you want. If you are not trying, you are quitting. Don't be afraid to fall down seven times just to get back up eight.
4. Some things are going right.
Instead of focusing on everything wrong, focus on the little going right. You're alive, you're breathing, you're free. Find the things that make you happy and focus on them till things start going right again. See the positive in life, it'll change the way you live.
5. Most of this won't matter in a few years.
Most of the problems we worry about today won’t actually matter five years from now. Remind yourself that whatever is going wrong now is only a small percentage of your actual life. Even if you’re dealing with a major issue, like a heartbreak, no matter how bad a situation is, it’s almost certain that something good will come out of it. At the very least, you will learn a life lesson. And you can carry that lesson on with you and remember it. You'll move on and you'll be happy again. And the thing that ate you up inside five years ago won't matter.
