As millennials who grew up with "Finding Nemo," we were all beyond ecstatic when we heard that "Finding Dory" was being made. Many of us were in theaters the first weekend it opened, just as excited, if not more excited, than the little kids that were there. If you’re like me, you might venture to say that "Finding Dory" was even better than "Finding Nemo," and you might also have found yourself relating to quotes from Dory and her friends and family during the movie. Here are some of my favorite and most relatable quotes from the aDORYable and fintastic fish tale.
1. “When something is too hard ... There is always another way.” -Dory’s dad
Life is hard and that’s a fact, but life is also an amazing adventure. When things get hard, we cannot simply just give up, but figure out a way to make things work. As the saying goes, “If there’s a will, there’s a way,” and that’s what Dory’s dad is getting at here. Don’t let the hard times keep you from getting where you want to be in life; find a way to make what you want happen.
2. “The best things happen by chance.” -Dory
Whether you are a planner or more of the go-with-the-wind type, at some point in your life you have had a plan, idea or image of how your life will turn out, but chances are, it won’t turn out that way. No matter how hard you try to plan your life, there are going to be some curveballs, but along with the curveballs, there will also be many unexpected blessings. There is no possible way to know where life will take us, and a lot of the time we don’t plan or expect the best things in life; they just “happen by chance.”
3. “Darn it ... no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t forget you.” -Dory
This quote probably brings one or more people to mind when you read it. There are some people in life that, as much as you wish you could erase them from your memory, you can’t. The good part of this news if that just as you can make an opportunity out of every problem, you can learn a lesson from every person. They may have made you mad, sad, hurt, heartbroken, angry or annoyed, but before you try to forget them, figure out what you can learn from them.
4. “I suffer from short term remembery loss.” -Baby Dory
You just studied all night cramming for your exam, but then you get to the exam and can’t remember the answer to the first question. You wish you could just tell your professor you “suffer from short term remembery loss” like Dory does when she can’t remember, but alas, you are not as cute as baby Dory, and we don’t actually have memory problems; we just didn’t prepare as well as we should have.
5. “Just keep swimming.” -Dory
This one is obviously the best quote. It originated in "Finding Nemo," but as Dory’s staple song, it reappeared in "Finding Dory." This quote is all about perseverance; no matter what is happening in life, “when life gets you down, just keep swimming."
