Hot summer days call for a tall glass of cool, refreshing iced tea. Everybody likes to head to Starbucks and grab their favorite Teavana tea, but you can easily make your own thirst-quenching iced tea at home and save yourself some money. There are many ways to make tea, pretty much add whatever fruit you want and you're good to go! These are five of my favorite iced tea recipes.
Each recipe makes one gallon of tea:
1. Southern Sweet Tea
Brew 5 tea bags of Luzianne Tea in one gallon of water. Any black tea works but Luzianne Tea offers you the most authentic southern taste. Steep for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags, add 2 1/2 cups of sugar while tea is still hot. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Serve over ice.
2. Arnold Palmer
Use the previous sweet tea recipe and add your favorite lemonade. Contrary to popular belief, Arnold Palmer drank three parts tea to one part lemonade. "Tea" off your summer with this classic drink!
3. Strawberry Black Tea
Brew 7 bags of Lipton Black Tea in 13 cups of water. In a large sauce pan, add 2 pounds of strawberries, a cup of lemon juice, a cup of water, and a cup of sugar. Bring to a boil, let cool before straining. In a pitcher, whisk together tea and strawberry syrup. Serve over ice with a strawberry garnish. To make this tea extra fresh, pick your own strawberries at a local strawberry patch!
4. Peach Green Tea
Use the same recipe for the Strawberry Black Tea, just use Lipton Green Tea instead of the black tea and use peaches instead of strawberries in the syrup. For a healthier version, use honey instead of sugar.
5. Passion Tea Lemonade
My favorite iced tea recipe is a "copycat" Starbucks Passion Tea Lemonade. Using Tazo Passion Tea bags, use one cup of water per one tea bag. Let brew for 5 minutes. While hot, add one teaspoon of sugar for every cup of water. Pour over ice, and add one cup of lemonade per cup of tea. You can easily make just one cup for yourself or a whole pitcher to share with friends and family!
