Music definitely has an effect on people. Different songs can mean a variety of things to different people. For me, a lot of Red Hot Chili Pepper's songs make me feel tons of emotions with every track. I have great memories with song songs, then worst memories with others. That doesn't stop me from listening though, because music is supposed to make you feel something! Now, we might not have the same feelings for each song, so I suggest (before you even read my comments on the song) taking some time just to sit down and really listen to these. These songs are truly good for the soul.

So, here are my top five RHCP songs that should be listened to by everyone!

1. By The Way

Personally, the best to this song just makes a "Trouble Randomly Appears!" scene in my head. You know, like when you're going through your daily routine when, BAM! Something occurs that you weren't expecting to happen. I don't know about you, but the unexpected happens a lot to me. So, this one reminds me that no matter what's ahead, I know I can beat it! I hope this reminds you that, you too, can beat whatever is ahead of you.

2. Hump De Bump

This is one of the more popular songs from RHCP. For this one, I know I always get down in the car and jam to this track. My friends and I have done that time and time again. Maybe it'll bring back some fun, wild memories for you; cause I know it does for me.

3. Hey

Whenever this song plays, I'm always taken back to the times where I had amazing friends that, in different ways, left my life. It brings back memories we shared and honestly makes me wonder where they are now. It makes me regret the things that happened, although I know where I am now and where they are now is where we all are supposed to be. I hope you feel the same way.

4. Minor Thing

A friend of mine told me that this song reminded her of our friend group we have. She said she felt all kinds of emotions when thinking about how far we've come to get to where we are now in college. Once I took a listen to the song, I completely agreed with her. Hopefully this track gets you thinking about the good times and the bad, but most importantly, how far you've come.

5. Porcelain

This quiet and calming song reminds me of the times I've felt really down and out. I actually can remember crying to this once, specifically when college first started and I really was, "missing my kin." Maybe there's some emotion inside of you that you've been hiding in your heart that just needs to come out. Maybe you're at a high point in your life, where you're looking back at the low points you were at. Maybe you just need to cry. Whatever the case is, this track is definitely heartfelt and needs to be heard.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
