Cozy sweaters, warm lighting, and evenings full of cooking with big pots full of warm delicious flavors. This sounds like a glorious, lazy fall evening. But not just any kind of fall evening, because pots on the stove means that the best meal in the world is being prepared.

Steamy and warm and full of variety: soup. This kind of food is completely unique and for good reason. Nothing else can even touch what soup is, because nothing is as good. It is the perfect remedy for sickness, bad days, and cravings for nearly any kind of flavor or food item. Here are some of the best soups that you can make.

1. French Onion Soup

Glory. The beauty of this soup is that you can just pop the ingredients in a crock pot, like this recipe does, and hours later is comes out transformed and delectable. This soup is the perfect combination of meaty flavor, caramelized onions, and melted cheese with bread that soaks up the broth and tastes like perfection. Craving a french dip sandwich? This will take care of that. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My favorite side with this soup is a yummy caesar or balsamic salad.

2. Ham and Vegetable Soup

Vegetable soup is great, don't get me wrong. But something about adding a leftover ham bone to the mix of ingredients will rock your world.

I can't think about going to my grandparent's house in the fall without thinking about the taste and smell of vegetable soup that has let it's flavors cook for a long time and is just waiting to be eaten.

3. Chili

Forget candy corn and pumpkin seeds! Chili reminds me of Halloween more than any other food. It seems like an unintentional tradition that chili has been our families go to meal for many Halloweens in my memory. I think chili almost deserves its own category entirely, because there really is nothing like it.

4. Chicken and Rice soup

The flavors in this soup are ridiculous. Not because they're over the top, but just because they're so good. Chicken noodle soup is generally lauded as the end-all of soups, and for good reason. But there's just something about creamy chicken and rice soup that beats out the classic. Comfort food at its best.

5. Taco Soup

This is like your favorite Mexican restaurant came to your home and put all of it's best ingredients in one bowl of soup.

I don't crave any soup as often as I crave this one. It's so simple it's almost too easy. I believe the ranch seasoning packet is the magic behind this one, and the flavor it brings is wonderful. This soup is a guaranteed party pleaser, but I would recommend ground beef instead of chicken.

If this post hasn't left your mouth watering and wanting all of these soups right now...I suggest you make them anyway, because that's bound to change your mind. And with fall approaching, do you really have an excuse not to have soup all the time? I didn't think so.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.
