5 Reasons Your Mom Is An Absolute Boss

If I'm half the woman you are one day, I will be pretty proud.

Today I was in the bookstore drinking my Sunday coffee and reading some good books, and I just happened to overhear a conversation between this guy and some of his friends. It turns out he was really tearing down his mom, and it wasn't until I realized how much it hurt me to hear it that I began to realize all the wonderful things my mom has done for me that I really take for granted. So here's to you, mom.

1. My biggest cheerleader

The basketball, soccer, softball games, the endless swim meets that took up countless Saturdays. You were always there, always pushing me to do my best even if I wasn't the best, and I am so thankful for that.

2. My personal chauffeur

You literally drove me everywhere... I mean everywhere. From grocery trips to school to practice, doctor's visits, play dates, literally anywhere I needed to go, always with a smile on your face.

3. My voice of reason

As Taylor Swift famously said, "You were on my side even when I was wrong," you have always been there for me and supported my feelings and my decisions even when I was being totally ridiculous. You also never fail to tell me when I need to seriously calm down and take a chill pill because I am being totally extra. Even when I hate to hear it, I'm grateful for your honesty and your reason.

4. My best friend

I honestly don't know what I would do without you. You have seen me at my worst and at my best. The late night talks and vent sessions, the countless shopping sprees and movie nights, and the endless amounts of laughter are all things for which I am forever grateful. You aren't just my mom but my bff.

5. Super Woman

Literally, though. The older I get, the more I don't know how you handled raising me along with being an adult and doing all the crazy scary things adults have to do... cooking, paying bills, staying up long nights and doing homework with me, making sure everything always worked out for me somehow (even when I came to you at midnight needing random school supplies for next-day projects). I don't know how you have done it all, smile on your face, making it all look so effortless. If I'm half the woman you are one day, I will be pretty proud.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
