1. The Sunrises and Sunsets
Not only does Cape May offer a beautiful beach to watch the sunrise, but it also has a beach on Cape May Point, specifically Sunset Beach. This pristine, rocky beach is home to some of the most amazing sunsets on the east coast, along with a flag lowering ceremony honoring all current U.S. soldiers and veterans.
2. The Beaches
The beaches in Cape May are always kept extremely tidy, and there is a family-oriented feel to these that make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Oh, not to mention you could stare at the lifeguards for hours and not get sick of doing so (if you know what I mean).
3. The Restaurants
The restaurants in this quaint beach town are absolutely top notch, ranking as some of the best restaurants in the state, and even in the country. Ranging from a pricier meal to an inexpensive delight, eateries such as The Washington Inn, The Mad Batter, and Uncle Bill’s Pancake House, all contribute to the charm and delight of this picturesque community.
4. The Shopping
Get ready to literally shop ‘til you drop. With a plethora of unique stores within Washington Street Mall, ranging from food and candy shops to exceptional gift stores, Cape May is home to some of the best shops in the area. Stores such as Sweet House (previously Morrow’s Nut House), The Great White Shark, and Makin’ Waves are just a few of the many fantastic places you will find here.
5. The History
As the first “resorting” location settled by whalers and fishermen during colonial times in America, Cape May is the oldest vacationing spot in America (capemay.com). It has a rich and interesting history. After the city was just about burned to the ground in 1878, it was rebuilt and, because of this time period, now has the highest number of Victorian-style homes in New Jersey. Along with the old homes come old legends of ghosts, so there are many tours showing off not only the Victorian-style architecture but also exploring the supernatural aspects of this tiny city.
