5 Reasons You Should Go Greek

The best decision you can make at college

5 Reasons You Should Go Greek

1. Narrowing the social scene

Just the sheer amount of students on a college campus can be pretty overwhelming, greek life is a great way to make a community within your big school. Your sorority/fraternity are guaranteed friends, and give you a selection of people to get food with, go out with, and go to events with. There’s always going to be people in your organization you don’t know that well- but there’s enough that you will know to never have to go anywhere alone again, and there’s always new friends to be made.

2. Finding people like you

Your sorority sisters are your sisters because you are so alike. There’s something about you that the sisters found during your rush process that they saw in themselve as an organization and wanted you to be apart of them- and that’s really special. You’re thrown into an organization with girls called your ‘sisters’ when you’re still learning all their names, but in time you truly do find your life-long friends in your sorority. Maybe even your future bridesmaids.

3. Campus Involvement

I know I would not attend nearly half the events on my college campus that I do if I wasn’t asked to go to represent my sorority. When you join the greek community, you don’t just join the greek community or just your sorority- you join greek involvement, which is huge. Every big school event, greek-related or not, there’s always a huge greek community crowd because we are taught how important it is to support and represent our school. There’s always something going on on a college campus and when you join greek life you will always be a part of it.

4. Memories & Opportunities

Being involved in greek life is an experience like no other. You perform rituals, practice brotherhood/sisterhood, support your philanthropy, and do fun things with your chapter like big little. As an individual, in greek life there’s so many opportunities for leadership positions to gain real-life skills and grow as a person while helping and supporting your chapter- and you gain the capability to make a real change for the better. As a general member or even an executive chair the experience and opportunities are endless.

5. Sense of belonging

Wearing your letters holds such a strong sense of pride for your organization, whichever it is. On a college campus every single day you represent your organization with every word you say and every action you take and that's a lot of responsibility to take on, but also motivation to be the best you can for your brothers or sisters. Greek life should encourage good behavior- and it does when your actions reflect back on to the organization and people you love. The support you immediately get from your sisters or brothers immediately after bid day are incredible. Your instagram likes go from 20 to 200 in like a week. And they all bring you into the family they’ve created and love you as their own before they even get to know you. They’re a constant safety net- they always have your back and you’ll always have theirs and I think that’s pretty special and certainly won’t be found anywhere else.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
