5 Reasons You Should Cross Stitch

Recently my roommate Brittany started cross stitching. At first we all poked fun at her, but soon my interest was peaked. She let me try a few stitches on one of the patterns she was working on, and I was instantly hooked. That same day I made my way to Jo-Ann Fabrics and got all the supplies I needed. I'm actually excited to finish writing this so I can cross stitch with her while we watch movies. Here's five reasons you should try it too.

1. It's cheap.

I got all of my supplies for about $20, and that's including an over-priced pair of tiny scissors for $8. A lot of sites recommend using DMC floss, which is more expensive. I just bought a generic package with a variety of colors of flosses for about $5. The needles come in packages that cost about $2, and the fabric just depends on how much you want and what kind. My roommate also bought an embroidery hoop, for about $4, but she doesn't use it.

2. It's relaxing.

I could sit and do it for hours. It's a nice hobby because you can make cool things, but it doesn't require much effort. You can also be so lost in thought, but it doesn't distract you from what you're doing. It's therapeutic. I actually considering not going out with my friends last night because I was in a cross stitching state of mind.

3. It's social, but individual.

Sometimes I like to be around others, but without expectations to socialize and apply effort to conversation. My roommate and I sit in her bad on these lazy winter break mornings and work on our patterns forever. Sometimes we barely talk. And it's comfortable and totally fine, which is perfect for me. Other times we do talk and laugh, or we just watch movies. It's great.

4. Gifts, gifts, gifts.

You can make things for your friends and family, and give it to them as gifts. They'll love it because it's personal, handmade, and kind of unique. My roommate already made me one that says, "Boo You Wh*re". It's endearing.

5. It occupies you.

This one is more personal for me, and not necessarily pertaining to everyone. I have a lot of anxiety about things, and I've found that cross stitching helps to keep my mind in a more positive place. I've found that I'm not getting worked up about things when I'm cross stitching. People with similar situations might find this hobby helpful too.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
