5 Reasons You Need A Betta Fish

Have you ever felt that your dorm room needed something? To liven the mood, to be a conversation piece -- something that will make your friends want to visit you more than they already do. You've tried the snazzy posters and you've tried the photos of friends and family, but you still feel like you're missing something. That's it, you need something lively, you need something alive - you need a betta fish!

1. Style - They are the original centerpiece, accent, or conversation starter.

Desk, dresser, wherever! Put them in a clean tank with a few plants, and they'll be happy. Easy to care for and easy to clean. Found in a variety of colors to offset the woody tones of most dorm rooms.

2. Compact - Their tank takes up less room than your textbook.

A minimum one-gallon tank is required for bettas to survive and thrive, and it's actually not that space-consuming. The tanks fit perfectly on desks or dressers and leave space for all your other school-related needs!

3. Personality - Watch as they explore their tank or fight with their reflection.

No, your fish doesn't know that it's looking at it's own reflection. No, it doesn't know that the food it gets is not a predator. No, it doesn't know you are the hand that feeds it.

4. Low Cost - High impact on your room appearance, low impact on your bank account.

A typical betta set-up (fish, aquairum, and accessories) costs between $10-$30 and can be used over and over again and can last years with proper care.

5. Ease of Care - While not care-free, cleaning a tank takes less time than you'd think.

In the time it takes for the delivery pizza to get to your room you could've cleaned your fish tank twice.

Note: While betta fish are simple pets to have in college, they are still living animals and deserve a happy and healthy life. Female/Male or same-sex pairings are not to be kept together - bettas live best alone!

If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
