I think it’s safe to say that most of us have wondered what it would be like to have a career working with children at least once in our lives, whether it be a dream or a nightmare. Working with young kids is not for everyone; it is demanding, stressful, and takes a certain kind of patience. However, this field is rewarding and brings a whole lot of joyous memories. Here are five moments that make anyone who works with kids stop and appreciate their jobs.

1. The expression on a child’s face when they finally solve a problem

Kids love when they are able to do things themselves; that is why it frustrates them when they are unable to achieve a goal. Whether it be a hard math problem or a broken toy, they will won’t be satisfied until the problem is solved or the toy is fixed. When they finally accomplish their task, their faces light up with satisfaction. They are proud of themselves, and you are proud of them too. You may even receive a thank you for the help you provided them with, which will make everything 10 times better.

2. The moment when you calm a child down after being angry or upset

There is nothing worse than a child you’re working with being upset or angry. Most of the time, it could be frustrating for you because it is over something completely ridiculous. Recently I had a child get upset with me because I told him he was not allowed to play with the custodian’s broom. He told me that I was being mean and proceeded to tear up. This stung. However, I sat him down and we had a little chat. We ended up coming up with a compromise and I even got a high-five at the end of our conversation.

3. When you see kids working together

When you see children going out of their way to help another child, it feels like all your work has paid off. It is amazing to watch a child comfort another child after they’ve gotten hurt or upset. You know that the child on the receiving end feels good to have a peer by their side, and you are proud of the child providing the assistance.

4. Being reunited with a child you are used to seeing every day

You don’t know how much you love seeing the same kids every day until you go without seeing them for a while. Then, you don’t realize how much you missed them until you are reunited with them. Once you return, you feel as if you have transformed into a celebrity. It is not unusual to be bombarded with excited children, trying to give you a hug.

5. The little things that they do to show they appreciate you

It is always nice to be appreciated. However, I find it even more meaningful when a child shows that they are thankful for you because they are so genuine. It doesn’t take much for a child to show they care. It could be an overly excited “hello”, a high-five, or a drawing they made in arts-and-crafts. Whatever the gesture is, it makes you feel admired and important.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
