5 Reasons Why Winter Can Be the Greatest and Worst Season

'Tis the season to love and hate Winter.

So, we have braced ourselves for a while, and winter is now upon us with the first potential snowfall coming this weekend. While we brace the weather for this coming winter, let's also not forget to reminisce on why winter is truly the ugly step-sister of mother nature, and why winter is warm and fuzzy on the inside.

The best of the best of the season:

1) Sledding

Winter cannot be winter without sliding down a hill or even a toboggan slide. Sledding is essentially the must-do activity during the winter season; for any age.

2) Building a snowman, snow fort, or anything with snow

It's kind of a tradition here in Chicago to build the most outrageous snowmen or snow beings. Every year, after the great storm, news stations across the Chicagoland area, and on most college campuses, will receive photos from viewers and onlookers of masterpieces they've seen or of their own creation. Chicago is practically the snow capital of the world, aside from other places with lots of snow.

3) Hot chocolate, coffee, etc.

Admit it, you drink hot chocolate during the Summer - unless, that is only me. For real though, the only appropriate time to fully enjoy this luxury, and taking the right advantage of it, is truthfully during the Winter season. Coffee is great, too, don't forget coffee. Never forget coffee. Hot drinks are the one thing I anticipate the most during the Winter.

4) Picture perfect

Let's face it, sometimes treading out in the snow is not always great, but observing it from the enclosure of a building, or your own home, is perfect. Snow glistening in the soft moonlight, as it slowly peers out from above the clouds.

5) Old memories, new beginnings

With the start of a new year upon us, it is alright to say we can reminisce and recall memories, whether happy or sad. However, with Winter comes a whole new round of memories waiting to be made. Whether it's a new relationship, bonding with old friends, a new life created, or a life to be remembered.

The worst of times of the season:

1) Snow, snow, and more snow

Snow is nice, but shoveling it mostly every day is not always fun.

2) Disorders

For those who suffer with depression, anxiety, or any other disorder, it is always best to remember that you are not alone, and to always talk to someone if the Winter impacts your disorder the most.

3) Snow storms

They're lovely to view on a cold night, but not fun when you have to deal with it during early morning traffic.

4) Dry skin, face, etc.

''Tis the season for dry skin, face, hair, etc. Be sure to stay hydrated, especially your skin and hair.

5) No fun in the sun

Sure, it's fun to go out and build a snowman, but you can only enjoy it for a certain amount of time before you get cold.

So whether you like the Winter or you don't, it's best to consider these things and enjoy the Winter, and the holiday season.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
