The other day I was scrolling through Netflix trying to figure out a new show to watch when I stumbled upon "3%", a new Netflix Original Series. I ended up watching the whole first season in one day!
Here are 5 reasons why you should give "3%" a shot:
1. The show has a "Hunger Games" and "Maze Runner" vibe.
Set in the future in Brazil, 20 year olds get a chance to go through "The Process", which is a series of tests to see if they are deserving enough to be a part of the 3% that get to live in "The Offshore." This place is free from violence and money, and is a completely equal and just society. If they fail to pass, they will return home to the impoverished Inland.
2. The Brazilian cast is diverse.
Compelling characters of all colors and different abilities compete in (or control) the Process.
3. The characters speak in Portuguese, thus being subtitles.
I personally enjoy subtitles because I like understanding what people are saying in different languages. It's nice to experience something other than English every once in awhile.
4. A little romance.
Michele & Fernando 4 Ever.
5. Relevant themes present themselves in the story.
In addition to themes of class and rebellion, there are more pervasive messages in the series. You will find yourself thinking about the concepts of merit, power and control, physical ability, "deservingness" and more.
The show has been renewed for a second season.
