If you are looking for a way to stretch your faith in ways you didn't know were possible, you should really consider being discipled. It is hard to put into words how much of a blessing my discipler has been in my life and how much closer I've grown to God through discipleship. Before I get into why you should choose to do this, let's first define what discipleship is. The word disciple means learner or follower of Christ, and the Bible calls us to be discipled and to disciple others. John 13:34 perfectly sums up what this means:
" A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
So a discipler is basically there to love you and lead you on the path of following Christ!
1."Iron Sharpens Iron"
I love Proverbs 27:17 because it is so true and perfectly emphasizes the importance of fellowship. By spending time with someone who loves Jesus and who's is a faithful servant of Him, your own faith will become stronger. My discipler's heart just exudes Jesus, and by just being around her, I am always more inspired to be a better example of God myself.
2. You may meet one of your best friends
My discipler has become one of my closest friends and is such a blessing to me. She has listened and helped me through harder times, and has rejoiced with me in the good times. She is now someone who I want to be a part of my life's big moments like my graduation, or future wedding!
3. It's a ton of fun!
I have had so many fun adventures with my discipler! Any time we get together it is seriously such a blast! Whether it's grabbing coffee and diving into the Word, having a picnic on top of a mountain, or doing a girl's craft night, we are always having fun while doing things that glorify God!
4. They Can Give You Godly Advice
Sometimes it's nice to get advice from someone who isn't your mom or one of your friends that is close to your age. I love getting advice from my discipler because she's four years older so she has already been through what I am going through but is still close enough in age to be relatable. I also know when she is giving me advice she does her best to reflect what Jesus would say/do.
5. You will become a better person
I can honestly say through my dicispleship I have become a better person and more mature in my faith. I try to show love to people because of how my dicipler shows Christ's love to me. I also have become more prayerful, joyful and confident.
Being discipled is one of the best things I have done for myself and my relationship with God. I promise that it will be such a blessing in your life!
