5 Reasons You Should Be a Camp Counselor This Summer
Breezemont Day Camp

Ah, sweet summer. The time where we all wish we could just remain barefoot and carefree for three months: lying on the beach reading a book, sitting on the front porch in the morning with a cup of coffee, roadtripping with friends and family. This could be our only true escape from schoolwork and grueling hours in the library. This could be our only time for utmost relaxation and ample sunbathing hours. However, this sounds rather impossible when you’re a college student who needs to take this free time to make money and save up for the school year. And making money means sitting in an office all day without any outdoor activities or fun, right?

Wrong! It seems the stars have aligned for your fun-in-the-sun summer job. Becoming a camp counselor is an option almost every college student has for a summer job because there are so many camps in need of counselors all over the country. There's no better summer job than spending your days outside basking in the sun and playing your favorite sports. If this wasn't convincing enough, here are five compelling reasons you should be a camp counselor this summer:

1. Become a leader.

Being a camp counselor is a perfect way to develop leadership skills that will help you later in life. Being in charge of a specific amount of campers who look up to you for guidance is an excellent way to improve your leadership skills and master your greatest attributes.

2. Build your resume.

Develop real-life work skills such as event planning and organizing. Camp counselors get the opportunity to possess many desirable resume builders by planning and coordinating fun activities all summer.

3. Make friends!

Your fellow camp counselors might become lifelong friends whom you will build great relationships with and possibly network with in the future. Grab those business cards!

4. Master responsibility.

While being a camp counselor, it allows you to become a responsible individual with compassion and team-building skills that can be useful in the classroom (group projects) as well as in your first internship or real job (co-workers and team meetings.)

5. You can wear your flip-flops to work every day.

Especially in the summer heat, casual work attire is essential when picking a summer job. While being a camp counselor, you get to work outside in the summer sun all day and even catch a tan. What’s more comfy than a t-shirt and flip-flops every day?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
