5 Reasons Why You Need To See Cashmere Cat
Tara Scieszinski

You may have no idea who Cashmere Cat is. If you have heard of him, you may only know him as the artist featured on Ariana Grande's spunky electronically charged R&B track, "Be My Baby." Listen guys, this artist is one you need to know. Having colloborated with artists such as Kanye West, Kid Ink, and Usher, he's already making quite a name for himself as both a producer and DJ.

Born Magnus August Høiberg, the bushy-haired 27-year-old, with a taste for poppy synth and fluorescent tye-dye tees, is taking his own unique approach to EDM, with music that isn't entirely dominated by some catchy chorus. Incorporating heavy drums, bells, piano and strings, he's creating a type of EDM that is melodic and simultaneously tinged with both upbeat and somber notes.

The Norwegian native is bound to become an even bigger star this year, so you need to catch him at his upcoming show at the Canopy Club Thursday, October 15. If you still are not convinced, here are 5 more reasons why you need to see this artist:

1. He's produced for THE Yeezus

Høiberg and Sinjin Hawke produced the opening track, "Wolves," for Kanye's upcoming album, which West debuted during the launch event for his new Adidas shoe earlier this year. The somewhat dark track features Sia and Vic Mensa, signature Kanye auto tune and deep beats. The track proves Høiberg's talent as not just a DJ, but a producer as well. While it may seem random that a Norwegian DJ would produce for the iconic hip hop star, the pairing actually complements both artists, who both enjoy experimenting with pop music and bringing it to a darker place.

2. He collaborates with Ariana Grande

For an entire month, Cashmere Cat rode along side Ariana Grande as the opening act for Grande's Honeymoon Tour. In addition to Grande's, "Be my Baby," he's co-written and produced an original track, "Adore," using Grande's vocals. The synth-filled track perfectly fuses EDM and R&B, utilizing Grande's sweet soulful vocals, and further showcases Høiberg's talents as a producer.

3. You won't have to travel to a major music festival to hear him play

The past two years have been great for Høiberg as he's been on the lineup of many major music festivals, including Coachella and Ultra. These festivals of course, aren't cheap, and not the least close to Central Illinois. By going to his show at Canopy Club, you'll be able to say you got the chance to hear him up close and personal at your very own campus, before your friends shell out big bucks to see him at a major festival across the country.

4. His concert's atmosphere will not kill your vibes

At Canopy Club, the crowd can often be filled with students who may not appreciate the music as much as they appreciate the opportunity to get their grind on. This can result in a lot of unwanted advances to concertgoers who just want to listen to the artist they paid to see. At Cashmere Cat's show, you will not have to worry about being humped on by some sweaty, fist-pumping frat guy, because Cashmere Cat's music evokes less lust-filled reactions. Høiberg isn't about the booty-twerking trappy hits that can often be heard blasting from Canopy Club's speakers, and you can enjoy a more mellow experience because of that.

5. You'll get to see his often hidden face

Very camera shy, Høiberg is notorious for taking photos with his fingers sprawled across his face, hiding any expression or glimpse of facial features. Quite the introvert, he has even been known to play entire sets without giving so much as a sentence to the crowd. Performing on stage does allow him to crack his shell though, and he bears his face for all to see, although his shaggy hairdo may cover most of it.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
