Coming into my freshman year this fall, I decided to do a random rooming assignment. When asked about my preferences, I chose to live in either a double, a quadruple, or a triple as my last choice. I was given a built-up triple. While we have been able to make do with our living arrangement, there are a lot of challenges that come with living in a room with three people that was made to only fit two. Here is my list of 5 reasons you do not want to live in a triple..
1. There is absolutely no space.
Moving into my built up triple this year, I knew that the room was going to be a little tight, however, I was not fully prepared for how small and cramped it actually is. In my room, we could hardly fit the furniture that was given to us by the school, let alone any extra storage that we might have wanted to bring. With such a lack of space, we are forced to put our clothes, food and books anywhere we can fit them. This causes clutter everywhere. Everything just builds up and it looks like we are living in a sea of clothes, trash and food which is pretty gross.
2. You can’t bring everything from home that you want to.
Trying to condense the clothes that I wanted to bring to school this year was one of the most difficult tasks that I have had to do. Three girls with only two closets is a match made in Hell and I was very worried about being able to fit everything. All of my worries were confirmed on move in day when all my clothes did not fit. Also, it is kind of unfair how the closets get split up. Whoever shows up first gets to pick their closet and can realistically take up as much space as they want to. There is no way to evenly divide two closets by three people, so someone in this situation will end up getting less space than the others.
3. You are never alone.
You know when you are having one of those days when all you want to do is be alone in your room. If you live in a triple, those days come few and far between. Since move in day in August, I have not been left alone in the room... Not even once. The longest that I have been alone in my room is maybe ten minutes. One of my roommates will always be there. Whether it be after I shower, eat, or get back from the library, there is always someone in the room.
4. Having the top bunk or the lofted bed is the worst.
The top bunk is the worst. You have to climb up and down all the time if you want to lay down, you hit your head off the wall every day, and either your phone, laptop or you yourself will fall off the bed at some point.
