"Will I get fat if I eat three chocolate chip cookies before bed?"
The glory days were when our lives were not full of ramen noodles and paper plates. The freedom of being a freshman comes with its pros and cons. Your parents aren't here to stop you, and your doctor is a few hours away. Why go workout when you are already walking two miles to class? Well, the freshman 15 is real and here's why.
1. Because of the all you can eat calorie inducing comas.
75% of the time you are in the café you are probably not reading the nutritional value of the foods items, and I don't blame you. If I am spending $8 per meal, might as well go big or go home. A hamburger or pizza for lunch? Why not both? Don't forget about dessert.
2. Because of takeout and delivery options.
Let's be honest, we have all had pizza with our roommates at least once a week. It's quick and easy, and most places offer a student discount. Add some bread sticks or cheese sticks, maybe even both, and you'll be set.
3. Because time is against you.
"I have exactly 15 minutes until my next class, so I need something quick." Divide that number in half, and you'll have the time spent waiting in line. You scurry to eat your food in 30 seconds before your professor reminds you that there is no eating in the classroom.
4. Because you have "no time" for working out.
In between Greek life, being social, studying, and worrying about what we're wearing tomorrow, there's just no time to fit in a workout. When we do fit in a workout, it takes FOREVER for it to become a routine. Let's not mention after the workout, we feel like we deserve the fattest food on the planet.
5. And because you are lazy.
We are college students, and anytime we can actually fit in a nap is a blessing. It is a true miracle if you get a full 7 hours of sleep. An hour worth of cooking is an hour worth of sleeping. Pizza rolls take two minutes in the microwave. So if it's only two weeks into your first quarter or semester, it might get better. You can always follow a strict fitness and diet plan. Don't forget about your Fitbit steps.
Who am I kidding? I am eating as I write this.
