5 Reasons why Swimming is great
Sarah McKalip

Being a lifeguard, and before I was a lifeguard I have always loved swimming. Swimming is good for your body for several reasons. In this article I want to list why I think swimming is great and why I think everyone can do it and learn to swim. It is a great hobby and a great way to stay in shape no matter what age you are. Swimming is not only part of my job but something I love to do in my free time. Swimming is what I do and it's something I think everyone can benefit from. Whether its just leisurely swimming or lap swimming or competitive swimming it's great exercise and fun! So whether you're a lifeguard or not on a swim team or not, maybe swimming can be the hobby you pick up! Here's why I think swimming is so great!

1. It is a full body workout

Swimming is a full body workout. It works every muscle in your body. You don't have to spend hours on the weights working one muscle a week, you can work them all in just a one hour workout everyday. And not only does it tone your muscles, it is really great cardio!

2. It is for any age

Whether you're two or eighty two swimming is for you! It is great on the joints and doesn't put pressure on your body. You can learn to swim at any age!

3. It could save your life

Learning how to swim could save your life in a sticky situation. It's a great life skill that I think everyone can learn how to do. There isn't a age that is too young to learn how to swim.

4. It's a great time to think

If you're lap swimming it's a great time to clear your head and to think about what's going on in your day. You can just relax and not have to worry about anything for a few hours.

5. It is just fun

Swimming is just fun! Whether it's outside swimming or swimming in the winter, it's something you can do year round at any age. Swimming is great for you body and fun! It's usually pretty cheap to get into pools and it's a great activity to keep you happy and healthy! Plus most pools have saunas that are pretty relaxing to sit in after you've finished!

So if you're looking for something new and fun to do this year, why not give swimming a try. It's great exercise and pretty fun. So grab your towel and your swimsuit and hit the pool!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
