5 Reasons Why PokemonGo Is Not That Bad

The newest trend has caught a lot of flack, but this game is more good than bad.

I personally do not play PokemonGo, but I have read a lot of opinions about the game, many of which condemn the newest craze. Here's why you should give the game a chance:

1. It's getting kids off the couch and out the door.

Probably the most significant reason why this game should be given a chance, is that the kids who spend 90% of their time in front of the T.V. playing video games are actually going outside. My boyfriend, who plays, went on a five-mile walk because of the game when his original plan was to take a nap.

2. People are making friends.

When I was forced to go on a walk with my boyfriend to try and catch an elusive Charmander, I realized that we were not the only ones on the street playing the game. On a Sunday night at 11:00, I witnessed a young man start a conversation with another man across the street and ask what team he is on and if he's found anything around there. As I looked on astonished, the men continued their conversation like they were old friends.

3. The accidental discoveries.

Although a darker and more morbid reason, there have been dead bodies that would not have been found if these people hadn't been on a search for Pokémon. I've read countless stories about the things that kids have found while playing the game and while they may not all be something to look forward to, there have been many positive finds.

4. Connection

I recently saw a string of comments from Tumblr about older kids and young adults checking out areas and making sure that they were safe for the younger players. The players are looking out for each other and trying to make sure the younger kids have a positive experience, which is admirable.

5. Community

On Facebook and Twitter I've seen people write statuses or tweets inviting anyone who is on their time to come with them on a hunt for these Pokémon. People who usually wouldn't have hung out together, are now playing this game. PokémonGo has brought communities together.

While I still will not play the game myself, as I have no interest, or the time, I do find that there are many reasons that this game does not deserve the reputation some have given it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
