There are so many breeds of dogs out there, but chances are your favorite isn't going to be a pit bull. Most people fall in love with golden retrievers, and while I absolutely love goldens, I have a soft spot for pit bulls because of how they're viewed in society. So, here are five reasons why pit bulls are underrated.
1. They Aren’t as Aggressive as They're Made Out
This is a misconception that really frustrates me when people insist pit bulls are naturally aggressive. They're not. The reason many people believe this is because pit bulls were used for dog fighting in the past, and specifically, illegal dog fighting. Because of their muscular build, large and strong jaw, and power in general, pit bulls were used for fighting.
Another reason why people think that pits are aggressive is because if you want a “stylish” pit bull, you need to have their ears clipped. The first is one of a pit bull before her ears were clipped. The second is the stereotype for a “stylish” pit bull with clipped ears.
These are the reasons why people think that pit bulls are so aggressive. Well, what’s the saying? “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” In this case, it applies because pit bulls are actually fairly friendly dogs. Like any dog, if you treat them poorly or teach them to be cruel, then they will be.
2. You Don’t Really Have to Groom Them!
So, now you know that pit bulls aren't actually bad animals. Unlike other breeds, like golden retrievers, German shepherds, border collies, and many others, you don’t have to groom pit bulls all the time. Pit bulls have very thin, short hair. Unlike the breeds mentioned before, who have thick and a lot of long hair, pit bulls barely need to be washed, unless they roll in mud. But besides that, they don’t need to be washed or groomed. This saves money and your house from all those balls of hair. Now, don’t get me wrong, there WILL be hair in your house, because every dog sheds, but it won’t be a large amount. Wouldn’t that be nice? To have a dog that you don’t have to take to the groomers every time the weather is warm or they start to get matted? I definitely think it would be.
3. They Make Fantastic Running and Walking Partners
They are very athletic dogs because of their build. They have muscles everywhere. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pit bull that doesn’t have any muscles. They are fantastic running partners, because they'll be able to keep up with you. And guess what? They love it, too! They love running and being outside. It’s a way for your dog to have fun, burn energy so that they're in a cuddling, relaxed mood later, and get fit while you do your daily running or are just going for a jog. And for those people that don’t run, walking is just as fun for them, just don’t be surprised if they pull a little on the lead because they want to explore.
4. CUDDLES!
This is probably my favorite. Pit bulls actually love to cuddle, ESPECIALLY after their energy is burnt. They're good at it, too. If you lie down, they’ll lie right next to you and you can cuddle them for a while before they get bored and get up. My pitbull will cuddle right next to me and then get up, walk in a circle, and lie back down closer to me. They do that. They’ll just lie there and go to sleep next to you. Plus, when they curl up in a ball like they are cuddling themselves, it’s definitely a Kodak moment.
5. The Smile!
This is another wonderful reason, and one that you've already heard of. When pit bulls smile, it’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Honestly, I don’t think I really need to say anything,Same because the picture speaks for itself. I mean, LOOK AT THAT FACE!
So, next time someone says that pit bulls are mean and not good pets, you show them this and say they aren’t as bad as they think!
