"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." — Socrates

1. The fear of failure

This is extremely common among many people because they let it define them. The fear of failure can be a source of pride, but fear not, because if failure is what we face on a journey towards the change we need to make, then bring it on because it'll be worth it when it's all said and done. Just wait. Be patient. Failure is good. Learn from it, and use it to become great.

2. Making the effort

Many people struggle with change because they are not sure if it is worth the effort they must put forth. If you even have the slightest thought that a certain change is what you need in your life, do not question it. Go after it, but be wise about it. Trust your instincts.

3. The pressure: all eyes on me

Here you are. You finally decide to make this change in your life whether it be big or small. People around you, your family, your friends, are all watching. This pressure can be stressful; however, you made it to this point, take that pressure and turn it into good, use it as MOTIVATION.

4. Criticism

Let's say you move away far from your friends and your family and at first, they all doubt that you won't be able to handle it and you actually end up being just fine. Then you feel an urge for change, you hesitate to make it because you fear judgment. "Oh, looks like she couldn't handle that after all." Lets just put it this way, if they love you and care about you they will not have any such thought in their mind. The people who love and care about you are the only ones that matter. Everyone else, ignore them. Their opinions are IRRELEVANT.

5. Out with the old in with the new

Sounds refreshing right? Like a new start. Well, many people fear it. We become so used to our lives that when change happens we do not know how to handle our current situation. It's a fix that can be found from within and can take time to adapt to, but if you felt strongly about this change, you will make it through just fine. Take every day at a time. Celebrate your victories and become even better.

You got this.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
