Nothing like good family time

5 Reasons Why I love the Holidays

In just a little over a month we will see another holiday. Halloween! To some people that is their favorite holiday because of all the costumes, candy, haunted houses and scary movie. On the other hand, Halloween to some is just that, Halloween. It means very little to them. Everyone has their favorite holiday and why they choose that specific one. I, on the other hand have multiple holidays that I think are great! Thanksgiving and Christmas are in a tie for being the most favorite holiday of mine! Thinking of the holiday's coming up it made think just as to why they are the best.

1. Family Gathering

Anytime a holiday comes around we all know that one way or another we will see either all of our family or most of them. It brings us together and allows us to enjoy each others company. Whether theres a football game or a Christmas movie on (depending on the holiday) family time is always special. Sometimes the family that does come to holiday gatherings, are family we may or may not have seen in quite some time. That is special time to catch up with one another and eat a great home cooked meal!

2. Food

Speaking of a great home cooked meal, who could forget about the awesome food that comes with the holidays as well! Whether mama cooked it or grandma cooked it, you know it's going to be good because they cooked all morning long in the hot kitchen preparing for the festivities that lay ahead!

3. The atmosphere

Anywhere you go during the holiday season you are prone to see many advertisements. It could be about sales, food, shows or events going on in the community. That alone makes me excited because you only get to see those once a year and when they are out, you tend to want to stare and take in the sights. Also, if its Christmas time (I act like Buddy the Elf every year) and you get excited like I do, then seeing Christmas lights fills your heart with wonder! Nothing like driving down the road and getting to see a little glimpse of someone who enjoys that holiday as much as you (which I'm sure I go a little overboard.)

4. It's a stress relief

All year we work long hours, over time hours and for some not enough hours but, at the end of the day we still put in time at a job that supports us. Without that job we probably wouldn't have a roof over our heads. Anyways, the holidays give those workers time to relax and regroup. It lets them have some breathing room so that they can go back to work after the holidays feeling rested (hopefully) and ready for the new year to start.

5. Music

Oh boy, did I mention how much Christmas music puts me in the best mood? Well truth be told, I listen to Christmas music all year round! There's just something about Mariah Carey and her classic hit, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" that cheers you up no matter the season! That song along with many others are just another favorite when it comes to the holidays.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
