Whether you're from the Upper Peninsula or the Lower Peninsula, you know that no matter the differences between the two, we all come together to love our home state of Michigan.
1. Michigan vs Michigan State
Ahhh yesss the good old “What team are you on?” question, it never gets old. You either bleed green, or you love the idea of having a wolverine as a pet.
In Michigan, you can instantly connect with someone by asking “the question”, even a perfect stranger wandering the streets will have a distinct, compelling answer. This state is filled with approximately 9.91 million wonderful human beings, many that you do not even know, and yet you can connect with many of those people by asking “Michigan or Michigan State?” Even with such a large population, us Michiganders can always spark a conversation with “the question.”
2. Weather
One day it’s 60 degrees and Sunny with no clouds, then the next it’s a brisk and snowy 10. If you have ever lived in Michigan, you know that the weather can be brutal and very unpredictable. It’s crazy, but it is one of my favorite things in Michigan. We’re almost known for having abnormal weather, and I LOVE IT. The unpredictability of the weather is something that reminds you “Oh… Hey, I live in Michigan.” We say that we hate the cold, windy days that make us lose power and the eight feet of snow that will amount in countless snow days, but that is what labels us as Michiganders.
3. Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula
Michigan is almost bragging. “Look at us, we have an upper peninsula AND a lower peninsula.” The upper peninsula is home to the smoothest, richest, and tastiest fudge one can ever imagine tasting. Having even the tiniest piece of fudge can make a person smile. One of the best places to get that rich tasty fudge from is Mackinaw Island. Mackinaw Island is located in the Upper Peninsula and is one of the most relaxing places around. If you ever take a day trip, things you MUST do are, buy at least a pound of fudge for the ride home, and bike around the beautiful island.
4. Silver Bells in the City
Silver Bells in the City is a magnificent holiday celebration that happens every year right before Thanksgiving. The idea of the parade is to put fellow Michiganders in the Holiday spirit and to watch the official lighting of the Christmas tree, right in the heart of Downtown Lansing. The liveliness of the crowd and the traveling aroma of hot chocolate is a memory like no other.
5. Right Hand
We are always carrying our home with us on our hands. Just hold your right hand up in front of you, and you can see the beautiful state that we live in. Whenever you need to explain to someone where you are going or where you live, you can always kindly show them. Michiganders can always proudly show you where they are from and where they are going from the palm of their hands.
