Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. Well, besides New Years Eve. Yes people give you gifts as part of the holiday but there's so much more to it than that. There's decorations, Christmas spirit and movies. Here are five reasons why I love Christmas.

1. Christmas Spirit

Around Christmas time people are happier, kinder, more helpful and more loving. This is what Christmas is all about. It's not about the presents or money; it's about being a better, more kinder person. Unfortunately our society is obsessed with taking any holiday they can and making all about commercialism and materialism. Christmas gets most of the blunt and so many people forget that the point of this holiday is kindness, not presents. And while people should always be kind and helpful to each other, it's nice that at least people try to be good once a year. Also, as part of the Christmas spirit radio stations start playing Christmas music and there are Christmas movies on television so that's nice too.

2. Family time

While Christmas may not be the only holiday for family time, family time is an important aspect of the holiday. For me, any holiday that lets me spend time with my family is my kind of holiday. Family time is the most important thing to me and should be for anyone. If I have learned anything, it's that people won't be in your life forever, so you have to enjoy the time you get to spend with them while you can.

3. Decorations

I know this might be contradictory to when I said that I hate that our society makes Christmas all about commercialism but I do really love Christmas decorations, especially when people go all out. When I was in Bath, England they decorated all the walkways and passages with Christmas decorations and I always loved wandering through town just to see the decorations. Stores also do the same thing here. Many decorate their front windows with Christmas decorations, especially in big cities. Christmas decorations just seem to make things look prettier, and they remind me that Christmas season is in full swing.

4. Christmas cookies

While my Christmas cookies usually don't end up as good looking as these, I love any holiday that makes an excuse for me to bake/eat cookies. Also Christmas cookie decorations are so cute and it's something you can do as a family. It's also a good way to relieve stress. And like I said, you get to eat them so that is definitely a big plus.

5. Presents

I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy getting gifts on Christmas. I mean who doesn't like free gifts? But it's definitely not what Christmas is about. I also kind of enjoy Christmas shopping for people's gifts, especially if I know what I want to get them. But it's also fun just finding something in a store and then thinking "wow they would love that." I also really enjoy seeing people's faces when they open my gift and it's something they like. Not that any one of my friends would probably tell me if they didn't but I like to think I'm a pretty good gift giver.

Christmas is a magical time of kindness, coming together and joy. There's always some miracle that happens on Christmas and everyone seems a lot happier around the holiday. There are so many reasons to love Christmas and the holiday season in general. Happy holidays everyone!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
