5 Reasons Why Leaving Your Best Friend For College Is the Hardest Goodbye

And by best friend I mean your four legged furry best friend.

42

Leaving for college and saying goodbye to your friends and family can seem impossible, but, in my opinion, leaving your dog, "man's best friend", and your cuddle buddy proves to be a million times worse. For some reason, dogs pull more deeply at the heart strings for some people than other human beings have the capacity to do. This is why not having your dog at college is so incredibly difficult.

1. When you come home from a long day full of school, work, and stress there is no one there waiting at the door ready to cheer you up immediately.

2. If you drop some Goldfish or a Cheez-Its there is not a living vacuum waiting right under your feet to immediately eat it up.

3. When you say goodbye to go back to school after a break, there is no guarantee that your pup will still be there waiting to welcome you home again, especially if he is an 11-year-old dog with two torn ACLs, fatty tumors, and horrible arthritis.

4. There is no one to snuggle up with you when you want to stay in and watch a movie or even just take a quick nap.

5. No other human being can give you the unconditional love like your dog does. Even on your loneliest days, your dog never fails to make you feel like you are the most important person in the world.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
