1. Having A Sisterhood
I gained over 100 sorority sisters within minutes and they all greeted me with open arms, which is the best part. Some sisters you will have deep bonds with and others you will just love just because. Being able to have so many girlfriends who will always be there for you whenever anything happens good or bad, is so comforting. The best part is having all your sisters closets to borrow clothes from, how many freshmen can do that?
2. Big/Little
When you join a sorority you will be matched with a "Big" sister, this big sister will be a mentor for you. Having a big/little relationship is amazing, always having someone to look out for you and guide you through college is a blessing. Eventually you will have the opportunity to have a "Little" and you will be able to be her mentor and so much more!
3. Philanthropy
Each sorority has a philanthropy that they partner with to raise money and volunteer for its foundation. You will spend lots of time volunteering to raise money and raise awareness. The entire sorority feels compassionate to their philanthropy and are devoted to giving time to it. Being able to give back is something very important and something each of your sisters will enjoy.
4. Academics
Each sorority has a required GPA for each member and you will have to maintain that through college. On top of having a required GPA you will also have a required amount of study hours for each week, this helps keep you on track. It is also helpful to have sisters that have taken the class or is taking the class and can help you. All of your sisters will always be there to help and make your first semester of college go by smoother.
5. Home Away From Home
I found a home with girls who will always be there for me no matter what, I found a best friend to be my partner in crime and I found girls to drive to Albany with, in the middle of a storm, just for sushi. I found life long sisters, most importantly I found a home away from home. For most people leaving home and heading to college is scary and joining a sorority made that transition so much easier.
