Let's be honest, the only reason everyone is obsessed with summer is because they know autumn is right around the corner. Sure, vacationing at the beach and hanging out by the pool is fun, but do you really think it's better than fall? No, of course not!
So in my opinion, the best things about fall can be organized into a few simple categories...
1.) Clothes
The second August turns into September, the urge to break out every pair of skinny jeans, boots, leggings, and knitted knee socks suddenly hits me. I stare at all the oversized sweaters and flannels in my closet that have been waiting patiently for me to wear. Layering clothes is super cute and one of the reasons why fall fashion is definitely the best.
2.) Food
It's no secret that I'm a huge foodie all year-round, but the dishes that are cooked in autumn are my kryptonite.
September comes first, bringing apple everything. Seriously, think about it! Apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, applesauce and apple pie! Then shortly after, pictures of pumpkin spice lattes are in the front window of every Starbucks in America.
And we can't forget about thanksgiving! Who could possibly refuse yummy plates full of pumpkin pie, stuffing, gravy and turkey? I can't, but I'll stop here because my mouth is beginning to water.
3.) Sports
Unlike food, sports are not my favorite thing in the world. However, sitting in the bleachers at a football or lacrosse game under the lights is awesome! Every time the student section explodes after each touch down or bad call from the referee is thrilling. I just love feeling the ground shake as fans stomp and cheer at the same time.
4.) Nature
I adore watching the leaves change from boring old green to all shades of red, orange, yellow and brown. Living in upstate New York means that the fall foliage is everywhere, so pretty trees always surround me. But all those leaves also means a lot of raking needs to be done.
5.) Halloween And All Other Spooky Things
I couldn't resist saving the best for last. Halloween is the holiday we all look forward to and start planning for weeks in advance. What should I dress up as this year? Should I go to this party or that party?
Even before October 31, you start getting into all the scary things. Movie marathons of the best horror flicks with loads of popcorn and haunted hayrides can go on for weeks.
Then when our costumes are taken off and the parties are over, we can still look forward to the following morning, because all the candy is on sale!
