5 Reasons Why Dogs Are So Important

"When most of us talk to our dogs, we tend to forget that they're not people."

It was the fifth grade, and my brother and I have begged for a dog almost our whole life. We were in between a husky or a golden retriever but we really would have been excited with any dog. We finally decided on a golden retriever and we went to a breeder to pick her out. I now have two dogs, a golden retriever, and a maltipoo. They are truly my best friends and I have no idea what I would do without them. Dogs are so important to have in a person's life.

1. They are always the first to greet you when you wake up in the morning. I don't know how a person can live life without ever experiencing a dogs greeting after you've been away from them all night. Even when you come home after being gone for an hour, they act like it's been years since they have last seen you.

2. They're always down to hang out with you. On days when your friends are too busy and you can’t find anything to do, there's always that one friend who is always there ready to play and have fun. Whether it's laying down watching tv with them or running around in the backyard playing fetch, your dog is one of the most fun friends to hang out with. They are always in the mood to spend time with you.

3. They love you no matter what. If you think about it, you are all that your dog really has. Without you, your dog wouldn't have the home they live in, the backyard they play in, or the love they get from you daily. You're the reason for your dog's happiness. You are your dog's everything and it's why they grow such an attachment to you.

4. You always know when someone is at the door. Who needs doorbells anymore? Your dog is the loudest alarm in the house that could tell you when a person is walking toward the door who is still 20 feet away. The entire block can hear your dog's bark and if you're that unlucky, other dogs from the neighborhood will chime in. You especially always know when the mailman is coming or you have a package delivery. They even bark at cars driving by or simply, just the air.

5. They will always be your very best friend and you will always be theirs. Your dog is always available to cuddle and be by your side when you're feeling down. They can brighten up anyone's mood in an instant. They will listen to anything you have to say and even though they can’t reply, their warm personality will give you all the enjoyment in the world.

I believe that dogs are one of the most vital things to have in life. The hard work of caretaking and training is completely worth it to have a pet who loves you unconditionally and always will.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
