5 Reasons Cousins Make The Best, Best Friends

I love my friends and I love my family, and the best combination of the two? Cousins. If you are lucky enough to be close in age or live near your cousins, you know just how special the relationship you share is. And here's why:

1. They've already met your family

Sometimes it can be a little intimidating or overwhelming to introduce your friends to your whole entire family.

Explaining those weird little traditions your family has or trying to describe the inside jokes you all share can be a little tough, especially if it's your friends first time meeting everyone.

But when that friend is your cousin, not only does she understand your crazy family dynamics, she's just as much a part of it as you are.

2. You’re always on the same page

It could be anything from weekend plans, to a cute boy, or a new job, but no matter what it is you’re talking about, you can pretty much read each others minds.

Since you’ve literally known each other since birth, there’s never a time when they don’t know what's going on in your life. Not only do they know about your life, but they know you super well too. And because they know you so well, they usually give the best advice. (Bonus)

3. There’s no such thing as TMI

Have a gross pimple? Do something embarrassing? Nothing is off limits and it is always a judgement free zone. There really are no boundaries. Not to mention my mom has probably told yours about it by now anyway.

4. You can hang out 24/7 without anyone thinking it’s weird

Yes, it may look like we’ve had a wine and face mask night every night this week, but really we’re just meeting to discuss important um, family things – you know. What can I say, we just have way too much fun when we are together. To be honest, we're pretty much a package deal.

5. They have to like you no matter what

Sometimes people disagree with each other, it happens, we're all human. But the nice thing about family is that no matter what happens, they'll love you no matter what. They don't really have a choice.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
