5 Reasons Why College is Better Than High School
Business Insider

There are many people that believe that high school is the time of your life. Well, I'm here to tell you why college is the ultimate time of your life. Yes, in high school you didn't have to worry so much about working, paying bills and being thousands of dollars in debt. But let's be honest, if I had a choice to go back to high school and do it all over, I wouldn't. Here are five reasons why college is a million times better than high school.

1. Fresh start.

We all had our fresh share of crap in high school. Starting drama, bad grades and being late to classes. In college you get a fresh slate. You don't know anyone there, and you are all in the same boat. No one knows your high school history, and sometimes it's good to keep it that way.

2. Picking your class schedule.

Now it is pretty awesome to be able to pick your degree and take classes you actually enjoy. It is a lot easier to be a 4.0 student when you are taking classes you are actually interested in. Granted, you still have those generals that are required, but hey, at least you have a big range of classes to choose from. It's also nice to be able to pick class times. Not a morning person? Don't have to take morning classes. Not a night person? Take all your classes in the morning. Easy.

3. Being on your own.

This is what you have been waiting for. Freedom from your parents! (Even though you love them very much.) You also don't have teachers holding your hands constantly, and you get to live your life. No one is watching your every move. This can either be a great thing or a really bad thing. Make the right decisions.

4. People start to grow up.

In college, no one cares what you wear or how you act. If you want to act immature, there are going to be people that you fit in with, but the majority of people are at college to get their degrees, make lifetime friendships and possibly find the love of their life. People don't care about how you are or act because they are focusing on bigger things.

5. Once you're done, you're one degree smarter.

Graduating high school is a huge accomplishment, but when you choose to expand your education when you really didn't have to, it's an amazing feeling. You also get the excitement of graduating with a bachelors degree. How cool is that?

Your college years are going to be some of the greatest times of your life. You find yourself. You find amazing lifelong friends, and so many people find their soulmates. Being able to finish college is something to be very proud of. Getting to take classes and majoring in a degree you are passionate about makes it all worth it. Cheers on my friends!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
