Many people have asked me in the past year, “Why are you going to Freed-Hardeman? Why aren’t you going to this state school or this other one?” And now that I have been here for a week, I am 100% sure that this is where I am supposed to be. I have no doubts in my mind. So after observing for a little over a week, here are a few reason why I chose a Christian University.

Worship — Every single night I have been here, we have gathered as a student body to worship our God. Everyone comes together, and it is just so cool to observe. Not many colleges have these opportunities to get everyone together. Plus, the singing is phenomenal every single night.

Bible Class — I get to go to a Bible class every single Tuesday and Thursday at 2:30 to study the life of Christ. Coming from a very large public high school, this is a BIG DEAL to me. I am so excited to be able to learn more about Him along this journey.

The People — I have met so many people especially over the last 48 hours that I am constantly having to say, “Now what’s your name again?” But all of the upperclassmen that I have met always always remember my name and that means so much. It truly is like one huge family.

The Professors — Tomorrow, my interface (orientation) group is getting to go have supper at one of the staff members’ house. Most of the staff members are opening up their homes for all of the freshmen tomorrow night. Every class I went to today was super awesome because I could tell that the teachers truly do care about me and want me to succeed in life.

The Friends — I live around the most awesome group of girls. At night we are always laughing and seeing who can eat the most peanut butter the fastest and seeing how many grapes we can fit into our mouths without choking, plus of course all of the girl talk. It has been so much fun to just have friends around all the time.

It has been so much fun being at FHU these first few days, and I am super excited about the next 4 years. I am so grateful to God for giving me the most awesome opportunity to be here!! All the glory is His!!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
