I am not looking forward to being so tired that I can barely walk, having to deal with grumpy people throwing up on me, changing bed sheets/pans, or possibly almost passing out when I see some gory stuff......but here are 5 things that I am so exited to become a nurse that my heart is beating uncontrollably as I type this.
1. I get to love on people for a job.
I love people. I want to help and make people happy. It makes my heart so happy knowing that I am currently learning how to become someone who can make people's life a little better while they go through a not so great time in their life. I know this will be hard when my patient is being ugly to me, but my goal is love on people, even when they are at their worst.
2. I can hopefully brighten the day of someone hurting every time I clock in.
So many people have commented on the fact that I am always smiling, it is just something that comes naturally to me. I would rather see the positive than the negative in any situation.I pray that my smile and positive attitude will be a light in a dark place. The hospital can be a very scary and sad place but I hope that even just a smile can help make one of my future patients or patient's family members a happier.
3. I will get to have an impact on people when they are at their most vulnerable.
I will see some crazy stuff I'm sure when I work in the hospital, but I will get to help people when they need it the most. I hope to always take this serious, and use every opportunity I get to share Christ's love with people when they need it.
4. It will be so rewarding.
Whenever I tell someone I am going to be a nurse their first response, "Wow we always need more nurses." Then they say, "It is tough, but if it is for you, it is the most rewarding job ever." I can't wait to be able touch lives in simple ways but just taking care people when they need it.
5. I will get to help make people better.
My job will be to help make sure the patients get better and go home. I will be assisting in possibly saving people's lives (depending on what type of nurse I become), but that blows my mind! My job will be important and I will get to see the benefits of my labor. All the long nights, grumpy people, and gross things will all be worth it when I see a little girl who had cancer hug me goodbye because she is now cancer free, and I was able to help her while she stayed in the hospital, or simply anytime a patients discharges with a clean bill of health who was in my care.
It will be hard, demanding, long hours of work, but my heart is filled with joy at the anticipation of getting to be a nurse. I simply cannot wait to put on some scrubs and go help my first patient.
