When it was first announced that Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in Zack Snyder's, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, people took to the internet to voice their disdain. The vast majority of people thought he was a terrible choice, and that he would ruin the character.
Although the movie got mainly unfavorable reviews, Affleck's portrayal of The Caped Crusader has been praised. Here's a list of the reasons why I believe Ben Affleck's Batman is the best one we've seen in film thus far.
1. He Looks Like Batman
Ben Affleck's batsuit resembles that of the one worn by Batman in Frank Miller's, The Dark Knight Returns. It's something different than what we've seen in previous films, and I definitely like it more than Christian Bale's armored suit. And anything is better than George Clooney's nipple showing batsuit.
2. He Is Massive
Not only is Ben Affleck the tallest guy to play The Dark Knight, but he's clearly the most muscular as well.
(Casually doing pull-ups with several 45lbs plates hanging from his waist)
He really looks like Batman in this training montage. I think I'd be pronounced dead at the scene if I attempted any of this.
3. He's A Good Fighter
Although Batman has always been presented as a highly skilled hand-to-hand fighter, I don't think any other film version of the character could take down Batfleck. It was insane when he took out all of those guys holding Superman's mother hostage in Batman vs. Superman.
He fights at a way quicker pace than Christian Bale's Batman that's for sure. Ben Affleck's battle hardened Batman isn't afraid to kill the thugs that get in his way either, making him the most brutal version audiences have seen.
4. He Squares Up With Superman
Speaking of fighting, Ben Affleck's Batman actually goes toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill's Man of Steel. We've seen previous adaptations of Batman take on some worthy opponents, but none as powerful as Superman.
After seeing the destruction caused by Superman's fight with General Zod, Batman declares the Kryptonian as an enemy. The two wind up getting into a savage fight. With the help of his second, heavily armored suit, and a Kryptonite spear, Batman gets the upper hand and is ready to kill Superman.
Batman spares his life, but only after Superman shows his humanity whole asking Batman to save his mother, who coincidentally shares the same name as his mother, Martha.
5. He's A Good Bruce Wayne
In order to successfully play Batman, one must also master his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. He's a genius, billionaire industrialist, and known playboy. His brain power has even contributed to Batman earning the title as World's Greatest Detective.
We see a little bit of this in Batman vs. Superman when Bruce quickly finds out that Lex Luthor is up to no good. He then attends one of Luthor's parties in order to steal information regarding metahumans.
On top of all this, Ben Affleck does a really good job at showing just how much of a toll is placed on Bruce from donning the cape and cowl for so long. When we're first introduced to this Batman, he has already been protecting Gotham City for two decades. It's safe to say that during that time he's seen some stuff that messed him up psychologically, like the death of his side-kick, Robin.
(Ben, if you need a new Robin I'm available)I for one always thought Ben Affleck would do the role of Batman some justice and I'm glad he proved the doubters wrong. I think the best part of David Ayer's, Suicide Squad, was Batman's cameo appearance. Learning that he put half of the squad behind bars just makes him that much more badass.
I'm looking forward to seeing him alongside Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman in, Justice League, debuting in theaters on November 17th, 2017.
