There are a lot of funny people in the world. Some are professional funny people like comedians and actors who get paid for their jokes and one-liners, and some are just regular Joe's and Joanne's who happen to make a funny every once in a while. One of my personal favorite funny people, and one of my role models, is Amy Schumer.
New York native, Amy has traveled all over the United States doing stand-up comedy, and has also made her way around the world on tour and while promoting her film "Trainwreck." Moreover, I often get funny looks when I say Amy Schumer is a role model of mine. I normally get a response similar to "Amy Schumer is your role model? Isn't she that girl who only talks about sex?" While yes, Schumer often talks about sex and sexual relations, there's much more to her and her story than just sex. In her book "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo," Amy talks about her life, how she's come to be the person she is today and her favorite topic: sex. If you haven't already read it, I suggest you head to the nearest bookseller & pick up a copy. It not only enlightens us normal folk on her journey to becoming a successful comedian, but shows us why Amy Schumer is the most dope. The following are 5 reasons that are often overlooked that contribute to Amy Schumer's awesomeness.
1. She is a survivor.
Unknown to many, Schumer is a sexual assault, emotional, and physical abuse survivor.
2. Her parents are just as messed up as ours.
In her book, Amy Schumer often opens up about her struggle with her mom, a woman who often manipulated her as a child.
3. She experiences struggles just like us.
Amy's dad has MS. In her book, she opens up about how this has been a struggle for her.
4. She is a woman in a man's field.
Schumer has become the 4th highest earner among comedian's today. She is the first woman in the field to break onto the list of comedy's top earners.
5. She isn't your typical star.
Proud of her robust figure and what she stands for, as much as she hates being asked about it in interviews, Amy Schumer is changing Hollywood.
