1. Small and intimate class size
When applying to schools, it was very important to me that I went to a school which had an intimate classroom environment. I wanted to know my peers and connect with them, and more importantly I wanted to know my professors and have them know me. I remember on tour my tour guide told us a story of how she knew a kid who had skipped class and the professor literally showed up to the room of the student when the student was missing too many classes, and while that sounded intimidating it showed that teachers cared about their students and their education.
2. Short walks to ANYWHERE and EVERYWHEREon campus
One of the perks of going to a smaller college rather than a gigantic university is that no matter where we have to go or what building our class is in it’s always just a short walk away, even if Lynchburg is a hilly town. No buses or cars needed for me to get to class!
3. There is a sense of closeness to the people in your school, clubs, etc.
Going to a smaller college rather than a big university can feel a bit like high school sometimes. We all have had the awkward occasion where you meet someone and you definitely feel like you have already met them before, but that’s what we love about our school. Things like greek life have a small knit family rather than a giant class and there is a close and connected environment between everyone in the school.
4. NO LECTURE HALLS
Okay yeah, this kind of goes with this first bullet point. But, it’s so important! Many of us chose this school because we were intimidated by the idea of being in a classroom of 200 kids at a University of 80,000 and to be honest, most of us probably would not have shown up if the class sizes were that big.
5. It just sounds more appealing.
A college sounds and IS more personal. In every sense of the word. We all have close and personal relationships with everyone, from our professors, to our hall mates in our dorms, to our RA’s, to the sisters and brothers in frats and sororities, to the band. We all know each other, and that leads to some really good weeks, some fun nights and even better memories.
These are some of the reasons we have come up with for why college is better, write down below some reasons why you chose a college and not a university.
