Being a nurse has been on my mind for awhile now. I want to do good for the world and for myself and others and becoming a nurse is my ultimate goal. There are a variety of reason I want to be a nurse and here are my top five.

1. I like to help people

I love the feeling I get when I can help a patient. I love being able to tell a patient that I’m going to help them get better. Being a nurse allows me to help all kinds of people going through so many different things. I’m able to be that person for them; to ease their pain, physically and emotionally. The light in their eye keeps me going and lets me know I’m doing the right thing.

2. I love the medical field

The medical field is so interesting, with new things happening day by day. There is so much to learn and so many new things to discover. Nursing allows me to be immersed in a variety of diseases and illness every day. I learn something new almost each day and am able to add it to the long list of things I need to know. But that doesn’t stop me from coming back day after day because it is something I love and will always come back to.

3. I like a challenge

I’m always up for a little challenge now and then and nursing does just that. We are given challenges every day from treating patients to dealing with positive and negative emotions. I enjoy the rustle bustle of the nursing world. The hospital can be a very intimidating place to work for some people, but I feel like i'd enjoy it. It can be hectic at times which will not only keep me on my toes, but will keep me coming back for more.

4. I want to show my family I can do it

Going to nursing school has been one of the biggest challenges of my life. All I do is eat, sleep, and breathe it, but I want more than anything to become a nurse. I want to be able to make it through and make my family and friends proud of me and who I have become. I want to succeed and be a great nurse and tell my family that I’ve finally done it. I want all those days of studying, all the coffee drinking late nights, and times I want to pull out my hair to pay off. I want to walk across the stand at graduation and finally be able to say I made it.

5. It makes me feel like a better person

When I help a patient it makes me feel so good inside. I love the feeling I get when a patient tells me, “I don’t know what I would have done without you today.” It just melts my heart. I love having those little bedside conversations with them, just trying to get their mind off things. The little connections I make with my patients each day makes me feel so much better inside. I want to be able to help them heal but more so make sure that they are happy throughout the healing process. Being that person to talk to them and get the bad stuff of their mind just makes me feel good about myself.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
